Maria Suh and Barnaby Stig Swann Pedersen, festival directors of Copenhagen Puppet Festival, received in 2011 several acknowledgements for their work to bring puppet theatre to a broader audience, and especially an adult audience. Even the new Danish Culture Minister has praised Copenhagen Puppet festival. Hear the interview from P1 “The Culture Office” here (Danish only).

Maria Suh and Barnaby Stig Swann Pedersen will receive their honorary membership from UNIMA Denmark on the 22nd of January, 2012, at the Puppet Cabaret, which takes place at 16.00, at Kulturanstalten, Lyrskovgade 4, 1758 Copenhagen V, in “Salen” – 3rd floor. Shadow play

We have now passed a 1.000 guests at our shadow play exhibition and workshop which has been running since May. Local schools and Kindergardens here in Copenhagen have welcomed the initiativ and we have recieved overwhelming respons. Therefore during the Autumn Holiday we will open the doors for the public. Each day it is possible to come up into the Children’s Culture Place’s children exhibition and explore the many aspects of shadow puppetry.

Children’s theatre for the 0-6 years olds and their parents by Madam Bach. A shower of rain is created on stage in front of, above and below the children. From silence to the first wind, drips of water and slosh which culminates into a thunder storm – which then again slowly subsides. Experience this magical performance which has recived enthusiatic reviews and we are proud of finally having the opportunity of presenting here in Copenhagen.

The Downstairs Puppet Cabaret

Denmark’s only experimental scene for adult puppetry will in October move to the 1st floor in Kulturanstalten. As always the concept and set up is minimalistic. This Sunday puppeteers will show extracts from the Sunday workshop.

September 11th and 13th we are proud to present Paper Cinema (UK) & Koom-Koom (IL) in Copenhagen. Both companies have performed at various international festivals and this a unique opportunity to experience them for the very first time in Copenhagen.

Imaginative British puppetry that fuses various art forms to create live comics accompanied by live music. This is a one chance opportunity to experience Paper Cinema live in Copenhagen.

KING PEST (10 minutes)
Based on a story by Edgar Allen Poe. Two sailors come ashore in 14th century London. They to go drinking and run out of money, and have to do a runner…

NIGHTFLYER (20 minutes)
Our hero crosses the night in a mysterious train in search of the lost flying girl.

ROCK CHARMER (40 minutes)
Amongst the round pillars of the old quarry an old man wanders scratching and exploring the mysteries weather worn layers of rock. And uncovers the story that the geological timeline tells.

Koom-Koom
Puppet Salad
Brand new puppet play for children about the human imagination. Playing for first time in Copenhagen.
The sponge puppet professor gives a lecture during which he invites his friends up on the stage. New puppets occur from his newspaper and garbage can. An old shoe box transforms into an angry soldier. The plot skips and jumps and along the way involves the audience in the creative process with quirky resultants and funny mishaps.

As closure for a fantastic, and puppet rich, Festival 2011 we invite you to AFTER PARTY tomorrow, Sunday the 27th of March, at 21:00 in the Café at Kulturanstalten, Lyrskovsgade 4. Come with or without puppets!

There is a World Premiere with the performance “Windows”, which is a performance made especially for Copenhagen Puppet Festival 2011, by the two puppeters – and puppet makers – Loui Danckert and Stine Q Pagh. The performance plays out of Kulturanstalten’s windows, where the audience can follow two ladies’ lives through three decades. The performance can be seen from Lyrskovsgade today, Sunday the 27th of Marh, at 14.45,  and 17.15.

Remember to watch Smagsdommerne at DR2, from Thursday the 24th of March, where they among others reviewed Say Cheese, by Teater Graense-Loes, whose World Premiere were at our Gala Premiere Tuesday, the 22nd of March. If you do not have the opportunity to watch it on TV, it can also be watch at the programme’sDR Website.

In connection with the Festival you can daily be updated  with a new edition of Puppet Press. This paper covers topics, which are of interest for the participants on the Festival including: reviews, reportage, interviews with guests, speakers, and volunteers.
